When this video premiered back in 2002 I remember thinking, "Who the hell is Darius Rucker?" Once I actually remembered who he was I thought, "Why the hell is 'Hootie' trying do soul music?" I couldn't fathom that someone with such a glossy pop sound could ever create something that was so rooted in soul music. But with continued plays on VH1 Soul and the cosign of my father, I came to discover that "Wild One" is genuine in both heart and soul. It's vulnerable and heartfelt. It's "the real deal," as my father would say. Whatever it may be it sounds good to me. Really good.

Darius Rucker - Wild One
