Æon Flux: Thanatophobia

I'm a fan of the cartoon Aeon Flux. Always have been. Ever since I was a little kid and I saw one of the female characters lick Trevor Goodchild's nipple...oh yes, this cartoon goes there. This episode involves espionage, acrobatics, jilted lovers, some S&M and other strange methods of reaching sexual orgasm (look closely during one of the wall scenes). But underneath all of that is a melancholy story of a woman trying desperately to believe in herself and find freedom/autonomy, both inside and in the outside world. Check it out.

Millie Forte

While exploring the world of out hip-hop artists a few months ago I randomly came across a young singer from Roanoke, VA named Millie Forte. This former emcee turned singer blends R&B, pop, soul, and techno sounds into what he describes as "The love child of stars and human emotion..." His songs "Runaway Girl", "Limbo", and "Walk The Moon" were immediate hits for me and and "La La La", "Good Day" And "City Lights No More" are becoming new faves. This star child's musical galaxy has me mesmerized and I hope his otherworldy sound mesmerizes you too. Check out his myspace page http://www.myspace.com/millieforte

You're just too CHIC & too FUNKY!

I've been on a model binge for the last 48 hours and I have a NEED to work some type of runway (You have NO idea how many times I've strutted across my house and campus these last 2 days...sometimes naked. HAHA). And of course every "model" needs music to walk to. What better song/video than George Michael's "Too Funky." Few other QUEENS have shown as much love to Supermodels as this man and this video has soooo may GORGEOUS models to swoon over. Linda Evangelista (ELEGANT! BEAUTIFUL!), Tyra Banks (Ferocity!), Julie Newmar, Estelle Hallyday, Beverly Peele (They could've AT LEAST shown her face), Nadja Auermann & Emma Sjöberg.

Apparently I'm not the only one who takes great inspiration from this video as Lady Gaga wore the same metallic robot body suit worn by Sjöberg and designed by Thierry Mugler in her video for "Paparazzi."

Givenchy Fall/Winter 2009 Campaign

Continuing my love for Givenchy, here are some pics from their Fall/Winter 2009 campaign. Now THIS was the collection that made me fall in love with Givenchy. The tight leather pants, the leather coats, heavy wool, thigh high sequined boots, scarves and WINTER SHORTS. Love it! Any Rock Head/fan/reader who'd like to buy me some of these pieces should feel COMPLETELY free to do so. :-)

Givenchy = Diversity = Dopeness

Yeah, yeah I know. Men's fashion week was 2 weeks ago and this week it's all about Haute Couture. IT'S ALL THE RAVE! But whatever. Sue me! I had to blog about Givenchy's (pron: Gee-Von-Shee) Spring/Summer 2010 collection. Givenchy's head designer, Riccardo Tisci, drew inspiration for his Spring collection from the youth of Morocco & Tunisia, 90's America, Axl Rose and the late Michael Jackson. Tisci was actually designing pieces for Jackson's upcoming tour and some of the clothes in the collection were designed for Jackson himself.

Looking at the collection I have to admit that while I enjoyed his solids, mesh tops & bottoms, and shoes/sandals (Sooooo DOPE, his prints are too dramatic for my taste (What's up with all those stars??). But what Tisci lacked in practical design he more than made up for in the diversity of his model casting. His show was BY FAR the most diverse of any menswear show in both Milan and Paris this season. Black men, hispanic men, biracial men, white men. He had nearly every shade of man in his show and hired 4 of Red Model Management's (my FAV male agency) models exclusively. I LOVED it. This is what fashion should look like and present to the public.

Cleevis & Mayvis...YAES!

I discovered these videos a few months ago thanks to a few musical friends of mine. I've been a fan of these homemade cartoons ever since people used them to pit their fave artists against each other. But the characters Cleevis & Mayvis BY FAR take the cake. A Tribute To Our Loss

I think the first time that I ever heard this Stevie Wonder song was when I first watched this movie. Back then it didn't mean much to me though. But as the years have gone by and I've become better acquainted with that thing called loss, more specifically the loss of love(s), I've become more and more attached to this song. After seeing Stevie perform this song yesterday at the Michael Jackson Memorial (Kudos to CNN for doing him justice) I was reminded of this scene. In a way this is my tribute to Michael and it is also my tribute to any love that anyone of us has ever lost and those "quiet nights" we've all "spent left alone."
